Osseointegration means \u201ccombines with the bone,\u201d which is just what happens \u2013 the artificial tooth root fuses with the jawbone. After healing is complete, which may take several months, the dentist attaches the replacement teeth to the root.<\/p>\n

Are you a good candidate?<\/u><\/h2>\n

If you\u2019re missing teeth, you\u2019re potentially a candidate. However, you must be in good general health and have healthy bone and gums where the dental implant will attach. If you have a disease such as diabetes or leukemia, or if you smoke and\/or drink, you may not be a good candidate. You should have a careful conversation with your dentist to determine your status.<\/p>\n

How much do dental implants cost?<\/u><\/h2>\n

As you might guess, since placing dental implants requires surgery and is a more involved process than traditional options, they\u2019re more costly. However, dental and medical insurance may cover some dental procedures and portions of the restoration. Discuss it with your dentist.<\/p>\n

Do dental implants require special care?<\/u><\/h2>\n

Dental implants are designed to be very durable, but they do require maintenance. You must commit to practicing good oral hygiene, including brushing twice a day and flossing daily.
